These were two things that we visited in the south of Mandalay city as part of a bigger day trip, but they deserve their own post because we were pretty taken with both of them. Basically they kind of amazed us.
Sagaing, the ancient buddhist retreat. A holy city stepped into the mountainous side of the Ayerwaddy river. Glittering golden in the afternoon sunshine.
Innwa is one of many ancient capital cities based around Mandalay. It’s a quaint little place with crumbling walls in amongst working farming communities.
We also climbed Mandalay Hill, a famous viewpoint over the surrounding plains with a number of incredible elaborately decorated stupas dotted along the walk/step up.
